GSR Brands Receives 2020 Goering Center for Family and Private Business Award

GSR Brands honored for community support, safety measures for both guests and employees in the wake of COVID-19

GSR Brands, the parent organization of Gold Star and Tom & Chee, is proud to announce it has been named a Goering Center for Family and Private Business 21st Annual Awards honoree.

This year’s awards honor “the incredible stories of innovation, resilience, tenacity and compassion from the Tri-State business community.” To be eligible for an award, businesses had to detail how they adapted their business during the COVID-19 crisis with specific attention paid to what strategies were employed by management and/ or staff; or their biggest breakthrough that distinguished them in the past year, particularly one that had an impact on the community, business vision and experience of customers/ engagement of their employees.

Advanced planning led to success throughout COVID

GSR Brands was honored in part for “the company’s advanced planning” that allowed it to serve customers across its 75+ Gold Star locations throughout the pandemic. From May to June 2020, Gold Star surpassed last year’s sales by 7.4 percent. In addition to new safety measures employed in the wake of COVID-19, the award recognized Gold Star’s community efforts. To date, Gold Star has raised in excess of $50,000 for several community organizations through its Coney Crates Initiative, sales of chili cans and “Milkshakes for Children’s Sake” partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

“As GSR Brands continues to renovate Gold Star restaurants, expand the Gold Star menu and grow the Tom & Chee brand, our commitment to guests, employees and the community at large remains a cornerstone of our business,” said GSR Brands CEO Roger David. “GSR Brands sincerely appreciates the recognition of our efforts to continue to deliver great experiences and serve the community that has shown us support throughout this unfamiliar time and in turn allowed us to help numerous worthy organizations.”
